Harnessing best international practices
Using globally tested best practices to promote civic engagement and impartiality at home and abroad.
Established and led by a group of international development practitioners, Civic Hub US leverages international development resources and best practices to promote civic engagement and democracy internationally and at home.
We identify, adapt, and apply best practices in international development to bolster civil society in the United States and globally.
Oral Histories and Knowledge Management
Thousands of international development projects and staff were terminated with no process to retain and organize records about what had been done, what worked, and what did not. Collecting this kind of data must be the starting point to establish how international development should be reformed. Civic Hub US is working with project staff and leadership to record lessons, key documents, and oral histories of terminated projects for future study and reform. Please contact us if you were among the terminated projects.
Impartial Election Observation in the US
US elections are among the most challenged and least transparent globally. Non-partisan election observers, domestic or international, are not allowed reasonable access to the process. Non-partisan observation by impartial actors, a common and typically codified global practice, is absent in most swing states. Partisan oversight and decentralization of the election process contribute to mistrust and confusion among voters. Civic Hub US is working with civic actors to open up civic space in the US and allow global and domestic civic actors better access to elections based on international principles and best practices.
Religion and Civic Discourse
Platforms and opportunities for discourse among religious and non-religious communities are limited. As a part of expanding civic space in the U.S. and globally, Civic Hub brings together and facilitates discourse among communities regardless of their cultural, socio-economic, demographic, and other differences and preferences.

“My ability to first speak about my project, then defend myself all but disappeared as my project was suspended and my employer and donor closed their doors and websites. Civic Hub’s Oral Histories provided me with an opportunity to contribute my story and provide meaningful inputs on possible reform during the most difficult time professionally for myself and my team.”
